Zorba's "Secret" Piano Page
Time to clean and polish the keytops. Look in the pix for the bar of "Ivory Brite". Didn't do much for the yellowing, but sure cleaned up all the dirt and stains!
11 August 2005
Key #1 before...
Text penciled on key #4, reads: "Hobart M. Cable #57129 Hilton Farragut Iowa"
On the other side of key #4, reads: "1959 * 2" Does this mean a Hilton in Farragut, Iowa
had the piano in 1959? Is that when they acquired it? Got rid of it? Tuned it? The
previous owner acquired the Piano in 1963 - how did it get out to California in that time?
We may never know...
Update 12/12/06: As you can see in this picture, "1959" is also stamped into the wood and is some sort
of case number or part number (Along with "162" which appears elsewhere as well) and
thus has nothing to do with the year. Goddess only knows why it was written on the key,
but the "* 2" is starting to look like a botched attempt to write "162". Piano Archeology!
87 years worth of finger oils and dirt on the sides of the keys...
Was also removed!
Alas! My poor helper, To Ktinos, was overcome with weariness early on...
Will probably try peroxide to bleach the yellow out - still, this all day project made the keys looks LOTS better - the photos don't do them justice!
