I don't know about you, but I get tired of EVERYONE on the 'net trying to sell me something. This said, I'm as addicted to e-commerce as the next person, so like 50 kazillion other websites, I have subscribed to Amazon's affiliate program.
I really like Amazon - and this isn't a sales ploy, its the truth. Their service is fast, their prices are good to very good 99% of the time, and their selection is huge. Buying through this WebSite costs you no more than going to their site directly - because you ARE buying from them directly, but gives me a small commission in "Amazon Credit" that I can use to support my reading habit, buy Belly Dance videos to review on this site, etc.

Wonderful books for pianophiles. Giraffes is a fascinating history of the instrument, with B&W plates and line drawings. Piano and The Piano cover piano history with lavish color photographs which are just gorgeous! Grand Obsession is a newly released book that tells the tale of a woman's quest for the perfect piano. A wonderful read!
First two are reprints of very early 20th century editions. As aural piano tuning hasn't changed since equal temperment was introduced in the 19th century, Piano Tuning is as valid today as in 1907. Pianos and Their Makers is a 1911 account by an industry insider of the time, Alfred Dolge. Lastly, The Piano Shop on the Left Bank is an utterly charming and enjoyable novelization of a true story.
The house of Steinway. Steinway & Sons is considered by most to be the defining work on the subject, but The Steinway Saga is a totally different take and includes anecdotes not found in the other.
Piano Servicing... is the definitive text on the subject, a must if you want to do your own work or are just curious. Pierce Piano Atlas gives you the year an instrument was manufactured based on make and serial number.Men, Women & Pianos is a tome which presents piano history once again - but from the standpoint of the societies that played them. A heavy, but interesting read.
If you are a Belly Dancer (or are just interested in our world), you MUST read this book! Absolutely hysterical depictions of situations we all have been in!
Wonderful, wonderful DVD documentary of the lives and issues surrounding Belly Dance and Belly Dancers in Egypt today (as reviewed elsewhere on this site). Even better are the performances buried in the "Special Features" menu! Also, Sarah Skinner's excellent Turkish Belly Dance DVD (review).

This is an absolute must read, but NOT an easy one. A frightening reflection of our own "entitlement" driven world. The best argument against Socialism I've ever read.
