Japanese "Dial-a-Stitch"
![]()
"Dial-a-Stitch" is a name that was used by the German sewing machine maker Pfaff, and indeed, this machine came in a case labeled with the Pfaff name. However, it was made in Japan, and has a very cheesy sticker with the "Dial-a-Stitch" name. This tells me that most likely Pfaff resold these machines as a quick and dirty rebrand. There is some indication that this machine *MAY* have been made by Brother - anyone who knows anything is encouraged to contact me. I've also seen a picture of a "Hamilton" that had the same casting marks on the bottom as well as bearing a very strong familial resemblance - but that still doesn't answer the question of who made it.
This is what my sister had to say about it:
On the underside is engraved J-C4...I think it is a J anyway. There is some kind of insignia too that I can't read but looks like it ends with Z. Also engraved is something that looks like maybe J, then A19, so JA19?
Case says Pfaff, machine is attached to case.
Lift it up you can see underside and identifying numbers, which are: 877-TW (think this is the model); 68409 (think this is serial); and engraved is a partial number or something, like a 4 or an A--then A19.
A sticker on front (peeling off) says Dial-a-Stitch. Another sticker elsewhere says "made exclusively for A C Weber and Co. Inc., national distributors of Fleetwood, Calanda and Pfaff sewing machines". A metal plate on side says "Precision made Deluxe made in Japan". Motor says 1.0 amp, made in Japan. Foot pedal is Mercury Electric prod., has number for pedal think it was 702.
